The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJCD), in collaboration with the South African Board for Sheriffs (SABFS), is re-advertising vacant Offices of Sheriffs across all nine provinces. This is a fresh call for applications following a lapse of the previous process. Suitably qualified individuals are invited to apply for these important roles in the administration of justice.

Requirements for Appointment as Sheriff
- South African citizen or permanent resident
- Fit and proper person
- Post Grade 12 qualification relevant to legal or sheriff duties (certificate, diploma, or degree)
- Knowledge of civil law and relevant legislation (e.g., Constitution, Sheriffs Act, Superior Courts Act, Magistrates’ Court Act, etc.)
- Financial and operational ability to establish and run a sheriff’s office
- Understanding of sheriff duties: serving summonses, executing warrants, holding auctions, etc.
- Cannot engage in other paid work without ministerial approval
- Must be eligible for a Fidelity Fund Certificate issued by the SABFS

All applications must be submitted using Form 1 (J743) and must include:
- CV
- Certified copy of ID
- Certified copies of qualifications
- Service certificates or affidavit
- Testimonials from two previous employers (if available)
- Affidavit detailing business experience
- Names and contacts of two references
- Affidavit on convictions and sequestrations (if any)
- Affidavit with supporting docs showing financial ability (assets and liabilities)
- Certified copy of driver’s licence (if applicable)
