Post Title: State Veterinarian: Aquatic Organisms

Salary: R896 436 per annum (all-inclusive remuneration package)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) in Veterinary Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant veterinary services experience
  • Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC)
  • Knowledge of aquatic animal health, aquaculture systems, disease protocols
  • Understanding of WOAH standards and SAVC regulations
  • Strong communication, planning, and analytical skills

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct veterinary import/export control for aquatic organisms
  • Perform biosecurity audits and aquaculture stock inspections
  • Support aquatic animal health research and manage biosecurity programmes
  • Act as Biosecurity Coordinator for departmental aquaculture facilities
  • Lead Aquatic Animal Ethics Committee (AAEC) and SOP reviews
  • Develop and align aquatic health legislation and international standards
  • Oversee the National Residue Control Programme and maintain reporting systems
