Inspector: Nuclear Enforcement and Compliance Ref No: DEE2026/013

Salary: R932 292 per annum, Level 11, all-inclusive package

Requirements

Applicants must have an appropriate Bachelor of Science or Honours Degree at NQF Level 7 recognised by SAQA in one of the following fields:

Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering.

Applicants must have at least three years’ relevant experience at junior management or inspector level in the nuclear industry or nuclear non-proliferation environment.

The post requires frequent local travel and occasional international travel.

Required knowledge includes nuclear policy and legislation, nuclear energy, nuclear non-proliferation, government and departmental processes, procedures, protocol and international obligations.

Required skills include computer literacy, communication, project management, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, instrument calibration, information collection, writing, organisation and coordination.

Applicants must also demonstrate analytical thinking and the ability to evaluate information.

Duties

The successful candidate will develop and maintain guidelines and frameworks for compliance.

Key duties include conducting pre-inspections before authorisations are issued, inspecting nuclear or related facilities to monitor compliance with legislation and authorisation conditions, monitoring compliance with issued authorisations, participating in International Atomic Energy Agency inspections, and monitoring safeguards implementation by NECSA to ensure compliance with nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

Requirements

Applicants must have an appropriate Diploma at NQF Level 6 recognised by SAQA in one of the following fields:

Office Administration, Office Management and Technology or Public Administration.

Applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification experience.

Required knowledge includes relevant legislation, policies, prescripts and procedures, as well as basic financial administration.

Required skills include language skills, communication skills, ability to communicate with people at different levels and backgrounds, good telephone etiquette, computer literacy, organisational skills, people skills, reliability, tact, discretion, self-management and motivation.

Applicants must also be able to conduct research and analyse documents and situations.

Duties

The successful candidate will provide secretarial and receptionist support services to the Director.

Duties include rendering administrative support services, supporting the manager with meetings, assisting with budget administration, and studying relevant Public Service and departmental prescripts, policies and documents to ensure proper application in the work environment.
