Post Title: Wind Energy Technical Specialist
Programme: Programme 2
Division: Applied Energy Research, Development & Innovation
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in energy, engineering, environmental science, or a related field
- 3–5 years’ experience in wind energy or related technical areas
- Experience in project management within the South African public sector is essential
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of South Africa’s climate change commitments and the Just Energy Transition
- Technical expertise in wind energy data collection, modelling, and analysis
- Knowledge of the South African Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and Independent Power Producer (IPP) programme
- Experience working with stakeholders across government and industry
- Strong project coordination and communication skills
- Familiarity with WASA and its methodology is a strong advantage
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and data modelling software proficiency
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as SANEDI’s WASA4 project manager and national coordinator
- Oversee project implementation, coordination, documentation, and reporting
- Act as secretariat to the Project Steering Committee (PSC)
- Organise and chair PIU meetings, prepare reports, and track deliverables
- Build internal capacity and provide mentorship to SANEDI staff and interns
- Facilitate skills development in collaboration with Danish partners (DTU)
- Contribute to knowledge transfer and national training workshops
- Support long-term planning and sustainability of wind energy expertise in South Africa
- Engage in offshore wind energy initiatives and future development planning
