Are you an experienced investigator looking to make a difference in South Africa’s public sector? The Public Protector South Africa (PPSA) is seeking qualified candidates for Investigator positions in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals in forensic auditing, forensic accounting, or investigative law to contribute to good governance and accountability in the country.


Job Details

Position: Investigator (Re-Advertisement)

Locations:

  • Eastern Cape – Mthatha Regional Office (Ref: PPSA 04/02/2025)
  • Western Cape – George Regional Office (Ref: PPSA 03/02/2025)

Remuneration:

  • R444,036.00 – R479,847.00 per annum (plus benefits in line with OSD dispensation for legally qualified professionals)
  • 12-month probation period (extendable to 18 months)

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: National Diploma or Degree in Law, Auditing, Forensic Accounting, or Forensic Investigations.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of investigative experience or experience in forensic auditing, forensic accounting, or forensic investigations.
  • Additional Skills & Knowledge:
    • Legislative knowledge related to the Public Protector SA.
    • Computer literacy and familiarity with Case Management Systems (CMS).
    • Knowledge of South African Public Service Administration.
    • Understanding of investigation techniques.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Fluency in English and another official language relevant to the region.
    • Experience in public awareness campaigns and outreach activities (advantageous).

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Legal research and interpretation of statutes.
  • Excellent report writing and project management skills.
  • Good governance principles and forensic investigation skills.
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and conciliation skills (ADR).
  • Ability to conduct investigations impartially, resolve complaints, and rectify maladministration.
  • Ability to produce high-quality reports and handle sensitive matters objectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate cases of maladministration, undue delays, and conduct failures.
  • Develop investigation plans for assigned matters.
  • Apply Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques to resolve complaints.
  • Keep complainants informed about investigation progress.
  • Draft letters, memoranda, and reports as per the required standards.
  • Submit accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Conduct public awareness campaigns and outreach activities when necessary.
