Job Purpose
The purpose of this post is to ensure municipal by-laws, traffic legislation and other applicable laws within the jurisdiction of Ubuntu Local Municipality are enforced.
The successful candidates will promote public safety, order and compliance through visible patrols, responses to incidents, issuing notices and fines where necessary and assisting in maintaining law and order through education, prevention and enforcement.
The role contributes to protecting lives and property and supports the effective implementation of local government regulation.
Requirements
Applicants must have Grade 12.
A valid Code B driver’s licence is required.
Applicants must have no criminal record.
Applicants must have a high level of responsibility.
Applicants must have at least two years’ experience.
Applicants must be able to communicate in at least two official languages.
Added Advantage
A Basic Traffic or Law Enforcement Training Certificate will be an added advantage.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidates will enforce municipal by-laws and legislation through patrols, inspections, responses to complaints and the issuing of fines and compliance notices.
Duties include traffic management, directing and managing traffic flow, attending to accidents and breakdowns and enforcing national and local traffic regulations.
The candidates will conduct compliance and legal enforcement duties, including roadblocks, inspections and vehicle checks.
The role includes issuing summonses, executing warrants and impounding vehicles where necessary.
The successful candidates will administer learner’s and driver’s licence tests and perform roadworthiness testing of vehicles in line with the National Road Traffic Act.
The candidates will provide support during accidents, fire and disasters in collaboration with emergency services and disaster management teams.
Additional duties include participating in joint operations with SAPS, Fire Services and community forums.
The candidates will complete reports, logbooks, summonses and statements, maintain records on the e-Natis system and occurrence books.
The successful candidates will maintain equipment, municipal vehicles and tools in accordance with municipal policy.
The role also includes complying with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and using prescribed personal protective clothing during operational duties.
Special Conditions
Candidates may undergo a physical fitness assessment and background checks.
Successful candidates must wear uniforms and personal protective equipment as prescribed.
Successful candidates must be willing to work irregular hours and respond to emergency callouts.
