Job Overview
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing the full financial accounting process of Overberg Water and will report to the Senior Manager: Management Accounting.
Requirements:
- A degree in finance from a recognised tertiary institution (NQF Level 7 preferred)
- Level 8 qualification desirable
- SAICA or SAIPA articles completed
- Minimum of 8–10 years’ post-article experience in a senior accounting or finance management role
- At least 5 years’ experience in preparing annual and interim financial statements
- Strong understanding of public sector financial reporting, especially GRAP
- High proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting
- Preparation of annual financial statements
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and interim financial reports
- Compilation of external statutory quarterly financial reports
- Preparation of ENE and MTEC submissions for the National Treasury
- Monthly variance analysis and budget comparisons
2. Financial Accounting
- Manage accounts receivable and payable
- Oversee fixed asset and inventory accounting
- Monthly reconciliations and closure of ledgers
- Compliance with tax and VAT regulations
- Ensure alignment with financial policies and systems
- Participate in internal and external audits
- Support procurement and tender committees
- Ensure timely updates of the asset register
