Job Overview

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing the full financial accounting process of Overberg Water and will report to the Senior Manager: Management Accounting.

Requirements:

  • A degree in finance from a recognised tertiary institution (NQF Level 7 preferred)
  • Level 8 qualification desirable
  • SAICA or SAIPA articles completed
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ post-article experience in a senior accounting or finance management role
  • At least 5 years’ experience in preparing annual and interim financial statements
  • Strong understanding of public sector financial reporting, especially GRAP
  • High proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting

  • Preparation of annual financial statements
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and interim financial reports
  • Compilation of external statutory quarterly financial reports
  • Preparation of ENE and MTEC submissions for the National Treasury
  • Monthly variance analysis and budget comparisons

2. Financial Accounting

  • Manage accounts receivable and payable
  • Oversee fixed asset and inventory accounting
  • Monthly reconciliations and closure of ledgers
  • Compliance with tax and VAT regulations
  • Ensure alignment with financial policies and systems
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Support procurement and tender committees
  • Ensure timely updates of the asset register
