Requirements

  • Qualification in Public Administration or Supervisory (NQF Level 5)
  • 2–3 years relevant experience
  • Surf Proficiency Award with competency in watercraft usage
  • Code C1 Driver’s License
  • Basic to Intermediate First Aid certification
  • Lifeguard Award and Quality Control
  • Appointment as Peace Officer
  • Ability to operate small watercraft during emergencies
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to speak, read, and write at least two official languages used in Kouga (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa)

Duties

  • Supervise lifeguards and ensure proper staffing and readiness
  • Conduct daily high-intensity fitness training sessions
  • Maintain records including reports, log sheets, and equipment reports
  • Inspect and manage lifeguard equipment and watercraft
  • Educate beachgoers on safety flags and designated swimming areas
  • Enforce beach rules and ensure compliance
  • Monitor swimmers and provide rescue and first aid services
  • Ensure safety of minors and coordinate with social workers when necessary
  • Plan and manage daily staff activities and performance
  • Conduct staff training and fitness monitoring
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust safety flags accordingly
  • Liaise with law enforcement and lifesaving organizations (including NSRI)
  • Handle incidents, complaints, and emergency situations
  • Perform rescue operations including swimming, running, and handling rescue equipment
