Electrical Technician: Energy Resilience

Requirements
Applicants must have at least three years of municipal electrical experience.
Applicants must have a National Diploma or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
Applicants must have ECSA registration as a Candidate Technician or Technician.
Applicants must be proficient in two or three official languages of the Western Cape.
Related proof or documentation must accompany the application.
Project Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the project is to strengthen municipal technical capacity to implement energy resilience initiatives and improve the sustainability of electrical services.
The objectives include providing dedicated technical support for MER and ESMAP projects.
The successful candidate will support the reduction of energy losses and improve network reliability through infrastructure assessment.
The role will support NMD management and load control at Calitzdorp.
The candidate will help develop and manage a pipeline of energy efficiency projects.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with MER grant conditions, reporting and TPA requirements.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will conduct condition assessments of MV and LV networks, identify ring feed gaps and identify undersized conductors.
Duties include updating the asset register and GIS data.
The candidate will supervise maintenance teams and theft replacement programmes.
The successful candidate will lead the implementation of energy resilience projects, including Solar PV on municipal buildings, LED streetlight audits and replacement, VSD installation at WTW and mini grids at Ladismith and Calitzdorp intake points.
Additional duties include preparing technical specifications, tender inputs and site supervision.
The candidate will monitor NMD at Calitzdorp and Ladismith bulk points.
The successful candidate will implement load management, power factor correction and peak lopping solutions.
The role includes liaising with Eskom on NMD optimisation.
The candidate will assist with the development of the Electricity Master Plan and Energy Management Plan.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with NRS, SANS 10142 and the OHS Act.
The candidate will prepare monthly, quarterly and close-out reports for DLG.
