Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to manage the daily activities and performance of Emergency Medical Services crews, vehicles and equipment.
The Ambulance Supervisor will serve as the primary liaison for clinical oversight, quality improvement, education, operational coordination and issue resolution within the prehospital emergency medical services system.
Requirements
Applicants must have a valid Immediate Life Support certification or an equivalent qualification.
A National Diploma of Health Science in Emergency Medical Care will be an added advantage.
Applicants must have a valid CPD compliance letter.
Applicants must have valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
An Emergency Vehicle Operator licence is required.
Applicants must have a valid Code C1 driver’s licence with a valid PDP.
Applicants must have at least three years of driving experience.
Work Experience
Applicants must have five years’ experience as an Emergency Medical Technician providing Intermediate Life Support.
Of the five years’ experience, at least three years must have been at supervisory level.
Required Skills, Competencies and Attributes
Applicants must have strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of Ambulance Norms and Standards, EMS regulations, policies and procedures is required.
Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles will be advantageous.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will oversee daily ambulance operations and ensure efficient deployment of resources and crews.
Duties include staff scheduling and ensuring compliance with medical protocols.
The candidate will supervise, guide and evaluate ambulance crew members, including paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians.
The successful candidate will monitor and improve patient care, safety and service quality.
The role includes maintaining equipment readiness and investigating service complaints and incident delays.
The candidate will compile reports with recommendations for service improvement.
The successful candidate may serve as incident commander or scene manager during major incidents or disasters.
Duties include coordinating with police, fire brigades and related stakeholders for incident management.
The candidate will liaise with hospitals, emergency services and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and response.
The role includes identifying training needs and providing coaching, mentoring and educational opportunities for crew members.
The successful candidate will ensure adherence to regulations, policies and procedures.
The candidate will identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
Additional duties include overseeing the maintenance, repair and replacement of ambulances and medical equipment.
The candidate will manage budgets, resources and personnel to optimise service delivery.
The successful candidate will participate in community outreach, education and public relations activities to promote the ambulance service.
