Requirements
Applicants must have a recognised and appropriate NQF Level 7 qualification in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences or a related field.
Applicants must have at least five yearsโ previous experience in a management or decision-making position.
Applicants must be able to conduct effective evidence-based decision-making, weigh facts and evidence, analyse complex information, identify key issues and work within tight deadlines.
Applicants must demonstrate independence of mind, sound judgement, excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, excellent written report writing ability, high standards of integrity and strong time management, organisational and administrative skills.
Experience in any aspect of the criminal justice system and an understanding of the victimโs perspective will be important.
Duties
The Chairperson will analyse and evaluate information to identify continuing risk or dangerousness in offender cases.
Duties include applying knowledge and judgement to decide whether offenders can safely be released into the community and setting conditions where release is appropriate.
The Chairperson will oversee hearings, work with other parole board members, provide structured summaries, facilitate report writing, draft decisions and act as an ambassador for the Parole Board.
Additional duties include supporting preparations for hearings, revocations and cancellations, public education on parole, inviting victims to hearings and attending court where litigation by offenders arises.

Duties
The Vice-Chairperson will chair meetings and sign documents in the absence of the Chairperson.
Duties include participating in the analysis and evaluation of information to identify offender risk, applying knowledge and judgement to offender cases, recommending release conditions where appropriate and participating in hearings.
The Vice-Chairperson will also assist with report writing, support the drafting of summaries, assist the Chairperson in recommending decisions and represent the Parole Board at hearings or other events.

Requirements

Duties
Community Members will attend and participate in the decision-making role of Parole Board hearings.
Duties include acting as facilitators of community reintegration for offenders, protecting the interests of the community, offenders and the state, ensuring objective and fair application of the release policy and performing ad-hoc tasks as determined by the Board.
Community Members must also ensure confidentiality regarding Parole Board meetings, decisions and documentation.
