Requirements

Applicants must have Grade 12.

Applicants must have completed the Candidate Physical Ability Test.

Applicants must have one year of operational experience.

Applicants must have an accredited Fire Fighter 1 Certificate.

Hazmat Awareness is required.

A valid Code B driverโ€™s licence is required.

Applicants must be physically and mentally fit.

Applicants must be medically tested according to NFPA 1582.

Applicants must have no criminal record.

Applicants must be proficient in English and at least one other official language of the Western Cape.

Key Performance Areas

The successful candidates will perform firefighting and rescue activities.

Duties include participating in fire and life safety training and preparation, maintaining vehicles, equipment and the fire station, performing basic administrative functions and operating apparatus and machinery.

The candidates will also operate various vehicles and light or heavy-driven machinery up to their level of certification.

Additional duties include performing control room duties when required and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment while applying duties safely.

Competencies

Core professional competencies include community and customer focus, problem-solving, negotiation and influencing, resilience, communication, ethics and professionalism.

Firefighting-related competencies include firefighting, rescue operations, special operations such as Hazmat, urban search and rescue, fire safety and prevention, safety and welfare, and emergency medical care.

Employment Equity

All applications will be considered. In terms of the municipalityโ€™s Employment Equity target, preference will be given to a Coloured Female candidate.

Should a suitable candidate in this category not be identified, White Female candidates will also be considered.
