Requirements

Applicants must have a relevant NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Physical Science. Candidates should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, computer literacy, and basic knowledge of handling laboratory equipment. A valid unexpired driver’s licence must be disclosed.

The department is looking for candidates with basic problem-solving ability, good communication skills, and willingness to acquire new skills. Knowledge of ISO 17025 will be an added advantage.

Duties

The successful candidate will receive samples with specific test requests and prepare samples according to laboratory standard operating procedures. The role also includes maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment and the laboratory environment, sterilisation and removal of hazardous laboratory waste, cleaning of glass and plasticware, and handling gas cylinders.

Other duties include in-house training of personnel, graduates and interns, capturing monthly water-related data, maintaining and verifying laboratory glassware, thermometers, balances, dispensettes and micropipettes, stocktaking laboratory consumables, and recording data according to the quality management system.

Requirements

Applicants must have an NQF Level 2 qualification or equivalent. A valid unexpired driver’s licence will be an added advantage. A higher qualification will also be an added advantage.

Candidates should have good verbal, reading and writing skills, basic knowledge of water distribution control for government water works, basic understanding of occupational health and safety, basic knowledge of flood control, and basic record-keeping ability.

Duties

The successful candidates will open and close sluices according to scheme regulations and handle water distribution sheets. Duties include performing minor maintenance on structures, fencing and sluices, assisting with blocked pipes and canals, removing algae and water grass, conducting daily inspections, and reporting holes, cracks, stagnant water, and other irregularities.

Other responsibilities include painting sluices, ensuring sluice numbers are visible, keeping canal grids, gauge plates, structures and surroundings clean, keeping post boxes locked, repairing minor washouts, repairing equipment when necessary, and keeping equipment and storerooms safe.

Duties

The successful candidates will clean the laboratory and equipment, remove laboratory waste according to procedures, clean glass and plasticware, and remove and connect gas cylinders.

Other duties include completing relevant forms for traceability of laboratory activities, stocktaking cleaning materials, requesting cleaning materials when needed, cleaning storerooms, emptying waste bins, keeping stock of chemicals, refilling deionized water containers, reporting hazards and damaged equipment, and switching laboratory air compressors on and off.
