South African National Parks (SANParks) is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for ranger positions at Garden Route National Park (Wilderness Section) and Addo Elephant National Park (Marine Section). Post 1: Section Ranger

Location: Garden Route National Park – Wilderness Section
Paterson Grade: D1
Closing Date: 09 September 2025

Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Conservation or equivalent NQF Level 6.
  • EMI Grade 2 designation (or must qualify within stipulated time).
  • 5 years relevant conservation management experience, including 3 years supervising Field Ranger teams.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of PFMA Act.
  • Good communication, project management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be physically fit and willing to work long, irregular hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage natural resources (invasive plants, alien animals, erosion control, rehabilitation).
  • Monitor projects and developments impacting the park.
  • Stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Financial administration, budgeting, and expenditure monitoring.
  • Supervise interns, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Ensure visitor management, safety, and security.
  • Maintain park infrastructure and cultural heritage nodes.
  • Comply with audit and conservation standards.

Post 2: Field Rangers (X4) – Fixed Term Contract (Ending March 2026)

Location: Addo Elephant National Park – Marine Section
Paterson Grade: B3
Closing Date: 08 September 2025

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Std 10) Certificate.
  • Must be a competent swimmer and comfortable in aquatic environments.
  • No criminal record (clearance required).
  • Physically fit – must pass fitness and swimming test.
  • Valid code B driver’s license and Skipper’s ticket (advantage).
  • Willingness to undergo medical and integrity tests.
  • PRE-SEA training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct law enforcement patrols (foot, vehicle, and boat).
  • Perform anti-poaching operations (clandestine patrols, night shifts, extended sea patrols).
  • Duty on Bird Island for up to 3 weeks at a time.
  • Assist with natural resources management.
  • Support maintenance of boats, trailers, and vehicles.
