Post Title: Senior Handyman – Hydraulics

Reference Number: DY25/5/03
Job Grade: B3

Requirements:

  • Grade 9
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a handyman
  • Overhead Crane Certificate

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist artisans in hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance on SA Navy vessels
  • Transport and clean equipment, collect materials from stores
  • Operate cranes and lifting equipment
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment
  • Conduct risk assessments and follow OHS protocols

Special Skills:

  • Basic hand tools proficiency
  • Mechanical systems and safety awareness
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

Post Title: Senior Technician Metallurgist

Job Grade: C5

Requirements:

  • BTech in Metallurgical Engineering
  • 4–5 years’ experience in metallurgy
  • Registration with SACNASP/ECSA is advantageous

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide metallurgical consulting and testing services
  • Use SEM, spectrometers, and testing equipment for material analysis
  • Collaborate with SA Navy to investigate material failures and provide specifications
  • Conduct inspections and audits for quality assurance

Key Skills:

  • Use of advanced lab equipment
  • Report writing, problem-solving, and teamwork
  • Attention to detail and legal compliance knowledge

Post Title: Lifting Machinery Inspector and Ship Surveyor

Job Grade: C5

Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Structural Engineering OR 7 years of industrial experience in lifting machinery
  • Registered LMI with ECSA (mandatory)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and certify lifting machinery including cranes and hoists
  • Conduct load testing, risk assessments, and safety audits
  • Collaborate with engineers and navy officers on compliance
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OHS and ISO standards

Skills & Competencies:

  • Engineering drawing interpretation
  • Report writing and consulting
  • Strong communication and team collaboration
