Responsibilities
- Command the vessel in line with national/international maritime regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain vessel readiness and safety, including certifications, navigation planning, bunkers, food, and water.
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental protection policies.
- Report deficiencies, coordinate dry-docking, and ensure compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Supervise cargo handling, voyage execution, and GMDSS communications.
- Ensure legal compliance with MSA, MLC, STCW, POPIA, and MLRA.
- Lead and motivate crewmembers while managing work/rest compliance and operational security.
Requirements
- South African citizen with a valid passport.
- Valid SAMSA Certificate of Competency as Master < 500GT (Near Coastal) – STCW Reg. II/3.
- Minimum:
- 2 years as Chief Navigational Officer < 500GT or
- 1 year as Master < 500GT
- Valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (no limitations).
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Strong ship-handling and leadership skills.
- Team player with high standards for safety and professionalism.
- Clean criminal record and willingness to undergo a background check.
- Must comply with strict zero-tolerance alcohol and drug policies.
