1. Field Ranger (Level 4) – Jonkershoek Nature Reserve Complex

Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape

2. Field Ranger (Level 4) – Geelkrans Nature Reserve Complex

Location: Still Bay, Western Cape

3. Field Ranger (Level 4) – Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve

Location: Heidelberg, Western Cape

4. Field Ranger x2 (Level 4) – Swartberg World Heritage Site and Nature Reserve Complex

Location: Oudtshoorn, Western Cape


Minimum Requirements (All Posts)

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • At least 2 years’ experience in protected area management
  • Valid driver’s license (minimum three years’ experience)
  • Working knowledge of the National Environmental Management Protected Areas Act
  • Knowledge in ecological monitoring, law enforcement, and incident response
  • Ability to swim and perform field ranger duties
  • No criminal record
  • Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, GIS)

Recommendations (Advantageous):

  • National Diploma in Nature Conservation / Marine Science
  • EMI Grade 5 or Peace Officer certification
  • Firefighting certificate and ICS 100 certification
  • Experience with 4×4 driving and GIS software

  • Alien invasive species management
  • Eco-tourism and visitor liaison
  • Environmental education and stakeholder engagement
  • Firefighting, disaster and incident response
  • Law enforcement and compliance monitoring
  • Supervision of conservation staff and volunteers
  • Planning and reporting tasks related to biodiversity management
