Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) and/or relevant training
- Unendorsed Code B driver’s licence
- Minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a General Worker (preferably in water facilities)
- Excellent communication, writing and people skills
- Willingness to work shifts, standby, weekends and public holidays
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
- Commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with statutory requirements
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Read, interpret and record manual and electronic data (e.g. meters, gauges, data loggers)
- Assist with general maintenance, housekeeping and grounds keeping
- Handle and transport water quality samples, chemicals, and heavy materials
- Assist with pipe bursts, reservoir cleaning, sediment tanks and filter cleaning
- Complete work procedures, timesheets, stock sheets, logs and job cards
- General cleaning and maintenance of water purification plants, offices and buildings
- Clear and dispose of grass, reeds, sludge and other waste materials
- Maintain inventory of plant consumables and housekeeping materials
- Safeguard plant assets at Public Works sites
- Comply with water and wastewater statutory and regulatory requirements
- Perform any reasonable duties as instructed by supervisors
- Rotate or travel to other facilities when operationally required
