DevOps Engineer

Centre: Public Investment Corporation, Pretoria

Purpose of the Role

The DevOps Engineer streamlines the PIC’s software development lifecycle to improve developer productivity, delivery speed, and code quality. The role works closely with development, operations, and security teams to automate delivery processes and build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or similar
  • Agile certification (Scrum)
  • Preferred certifications in Microsoft Azure and Power Platform
  • 4–5 years’ experience in application development and support
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as:
    • HTML5, C#, .NET, Java, JavaScript, XML, CSS, Python
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and platforms, including:
    • Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, CircleCI, Docker, GitLab, Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps principles

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Streamline the software development lifecycle by identifying inefficiencies and productivity barriers
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve build and release processes
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (development, QA, operations, security) to optimise workflows
  • Build, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop and improve automation solutions, including automated testing
  • Ensure systems meet business needs for reliability and availability
  • Monitor and manage application performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve root causes
  • Analyse and resolve complex production issues with cross-functional teams
  • Prepare and present design and implementation documentation
  • Research and recommend new tools and technologies
  • Promote DevOps culture and best practices across the organisation
