Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Limpopo Department of Education Driver/Messenger Vacancies, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Three (3) years’ bus driving experience will be an added advantage.
  • Willingness to undergo a driver’s competency test before appointment.
  • Ability to work respectfully and patiently with learners with special educational needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Driver/Messenger at a Special School, you will be responsible for:

  • Learner Transport
    • Transporting learners to and from school by following designated routes and schedules.
    • Ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws and road safety regulations.
    • Assisting learners with safe loading and off-loading from the bus.
    • Supervising learners during transit to maintain discipline and safety.
  • Communication and Reporting
    • Communicating with learners, parents and school staff in a respectful and professional manner.
    • Informing school management and/or parents of incidents or challenges experienced during trips.
    • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily.
    • Reporting mechanical defects and arranging for necessary repairs.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Performing route safety checks and periodic safety drills as required by law.
    • Completing required safety and incident reports.
    • Ensuring the vehicle is clean, fuelled, roadworthy and well-maintained at all times.
  • Messenger and Support Duties
    • Collecting and delivering documents, mail, packages and other items between the school, district offices, post office and other stakeholders.
    • Assisting with buying and loading equipment, groceries and other institutional supplies.
    • Providing health support, including taking learners to clinics and hospitals when required.
    • Keeping accurate records and logbooks for trips, mileage, fuel usage and goods handled.
    • Assisting with general office or clerical support when needed (e.g. filing, photocopying, running errands).
  • Customer Service
    • Interacting with parents, colleagues and service providers in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Skills and Personal Attributes

Successful candidates for these Driver/Messenger posts should demonstrate:

  • Strong road safety awareness and defensive driving skills.
  • Patience, empathy and care when working with learners with special needs.
  • Good communication skills (verbal) with both adults and children.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and procedures of the Department.

  • Do not attach certified copies of qualifications and ID at application stage.
    • Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies (not older than 6 months) on or before the day of the interview.
