Department of Basic Education Vacancies 2026: Assistant Director and Senior Administration Officer Posts Open

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced new government vacancies in Pretoria, with applications closing on 27 February 2026. The posts fall under the Branch: Teachers Education Human Resources and Institutional Development and focus on Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD).

Assistant Director: Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD)

Ref No: DBE/03/2026
Salary: R468 459 per annum
Centre: Pretoria

The DBE is recruiting an Assistant Director to support the implementation and coordination of Continuing Professional Teacher Development programmes, including the Teacher Appreciation and Support Programmes (TASP) and the National Teaching Awards (NTA).

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in Labour Relations or related field recognised by SAQA
  • At least three years’ supervisory experience in the education sector
  • Two years’ experience in quality design of CPTD programmes
  • Experience in formal writing and document management
  • Understanding of education policy frameworks including NEPA
  • Knowledge of Public Service Regulations and procurement processes
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct Teacher Appreciation and Support Programmes (TASP)
  • Assist with programme planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Support implementation of advocacy strategies
  • Coordinate National Teaching Awards activities and risk mitigation
  • Liaise with Provincial Education Departments, teacher unions and stakeholders
  • Manage programme administration and reporting

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a practical assessment and an integrity assessment as part of the selection process.


Senior Administration Officer: Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD)

Salary: R397 116 per annum
Centre: Pretoria

The Senior Administration Officer will provide financial and administrative support to the CPTD Directorate, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and financial regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • A three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in Financial Management, Public Administration, or Social Sciences
  • Two years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge of PFMA, BAS, Batho Pele Principles, and National Treasury Regulations
  • Experience in financial reporting and record keeping
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code 8)

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate budgeting and financial reporting processes
  • Manage procurement and supply chain activities
  • Maintain asset registers and records
  • Support logistics for meetings, training workshops and National Teaching Awards events
  • Compile financial submissions and memoranda
  • Provide general administrative support to the Directorate

As with the Assistant Director post, shortlisted candidates will undergo practical and integrity assessments.
