Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Science/Natural Science or relevant qualification (NQF Level 8)
  • 3 years post-qualification experience in natural science or relevant field
  • Compulsory registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist
  • Practical knowledge of modelling and stock assessment techniques
  • Software skills in statistical/modelling tools (e.g., R, ADMB)
  • Programming skills for fisheries stock assessment models (statistical and mathematical)
  • Strong quantitative focus; programme and project management
  • Ability to work individually and in a team
  • Ability and willingness to work at sea

Duties

  • Conduct statistical analysis and modelling for fisheries stock assessments across various resources
  • Apply Operational Management Procedures to provide scientific advice for sustainable fisheries management
  • Develop and implement methodologies, policies, systems, and procedures; identify gaps and propose interventions
  • Build working relationships with the fisheries industry, small-scale fisheries, and fisheries rights holders
  • Conduct basic and applied research; publish and present research findings
  • Provide scientific data, advice, and documentation for sustainable fisheries management
  • Train and mentor junior personnel; supervise scientific work and data archiving where required

Requirements

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) or higher in Accounting/Financial Management (or equivalent)
  • 1 year experience in revenue management or relevant field
  • Experience in ORACLE and MAST financial systems
  • Knowledge of revenue management processes, strategic planning, accounting and business practices
  • Knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Departmental Financial Instructions, GRAP, GAAP and Accrual Accounting
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work under pressure

Duties

  • Capture bank deposit payments accurately and timeously on the financial system
  • Monitor unreconciled bank statement lines and receipts; perform daily receipt reconciliation
  • Process debit/credit memos and journals; monitor incomplete invoices and unresolved receipts
  • Verify levy compliance of fishing rights holders; manage and distribute incoming levies
  • Conduct levy verification and issue levy clearance letters
  • Perform levies and landing reconciliation at season end
  • Supervise debt collection (letters of demand and handover to state attorney where required)
  • Assist with month-end revenue reports and year-end processes for Annual Financial Statements (AFS)
  • Handle general enquiries related to revenue management of MLRF
