Deputy Director (Permanent Position)

Minimum Requirements

  • Appropriate Degree in Engineering / Built Environment / Construction / Public Administration at NQF Level 7
  • 7–9 years’ overall experience in the housing environment at middle management level
  • Sound knowledge of:
    • Project Management
    • Financial Management
    • Property Management
  • Professional registration with a recognised professional body within the built environment

Primary Function

To lead and manage the implementation of housing programmes and projects. The role involves coordinating the initiation, planning, implementation and monitoring of integrated housing programmes to ensure delivery within approved timeframes, budgets and quality standards.

  • Manage compliance and support activities in line with departmental policies and guidelines to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations
  • Coordinate procedural requirements associated with Human Capital Development initiatives

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of environmental research and testing methodologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of environmental legislation, by-laws, labour laws and Council policies
  • Knowledge of the City’s strategic planning and performance management processes
  • Understanding of sub-directorate processes and procedures
  • Working knowledge of City systems such as SAP, electronic document management systems, Outlook and data management platforms
  • Knowledge of City of Johannesburg Council rules and procedures
