Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Traffic Officer Diploma

Experience

  • Two (2) to Five (5) years of relevant experience

Requirements

  • Valid Code A & EC driver’s licence
  • Basic First Aid Certificate
  • Proficiency in at least two official Western Cape languages (Afrikaans/English/Xhosa) – Read, Write and Speak
  • Strong human relations, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Conflict-handling abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Firearm proficiency
  • Willingness to work overtime, shifts and standby duties
  • Able to perform duties in other municipal areas when required
  • No criminal record

Job Purpose

The role involves conducting examinations, issuing learner and driving licences, and performing roadworthiness assessments. The Traffic Officer will monitor traffic flow, enforce road safety laws, reduce congestion, and support emergency and disaster management teams.

Key Performance Areas

  • Enforce traffic laws in accordance with the Road Traffic Act 93 of 1993
  • Conduct municipal by-law enforcement
  • Educate scholars on road safety
  • Conduct roadblocks with SAPS and stakeholders
  • Oversee procedures related to vehicle testing, licensing and registration
  • Examine vehicles for roadworthiness
  • Assist during disasters, emergencies, or firefighting situations
  • Prepare statutory reports, documentation and registers
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles
  • Perform community policing and issue fines or make arrests when necessary
