Post Title: Artisan: Pipe Fitter
Purpose of the Job
To deliver efficient and effective pipe fitting and boiler making repair services to the South African Navy fleet, shore establishments, and visiting ships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out pipe fitting tasks according to job cards and instructions.
- Identify required resources and complete assigned jobs on time.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and rectify unsafe activities.
- Support project managers and colleagues to ensure successful job completion.
- Maintain accurate records and job reports.
- Supervise junior staff and contractors, and assist in training.
- Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualification:
- N3 Certificate plus Trade Certificate (Red Seal) in pipe fitting or boiler making, endorsed by the Department of Labour or relevant SETA.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in pipe fitting or boiler making.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings.
- Knowledge of pipe fabrication processes, tools, machines, and materials.
- Understanding of quality control and safety regulations.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Use of lifting tackles and overhead cranes.
- Fault-finding and job planning ability.
- Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- Willingness to work overtime and function effectively in a team.
