Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) plus
- An Accounting Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Accounting
(Majors: Financial Accounting 3 and Auditing 3) - Registration with a recognised professional body, such as:
- SAICA
- ACCA
- CIMA
- CA(SA)
- Completed SAICA articles will be an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in:
- Financial Accounting
- External Audit environments
- Completion of 3-year articles with a recognised audit firm
- Extensive understanding of:
- IFRS
- Tax legislation
Technical Competencies Required
- In-depth knowledge of:
- International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Higher Education Act
- International Standards on Auditing (ISA)
- Unisa policies and procedures
- Financial reporting, statutory administration, and internal controls
- Understanding of group accounting, creditors policies, and governance frameworks
Key Responsibilities
1. General Ledger & Month-End Management
- Scrutinise general ledger and suspense accounts
- Review and validate manual journals
- Support colleges with compliance and reporting improvements
- Oversee month-end and year-end closure processes
- Review and sign off balance sheet reconciliations
2. Technical Accounting Support
- Provide expert guidance on complex accounting issues
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, DHET regulations, and tax legislation
- Develop, review, and align accounting policies with updated standards
- Train and support finance staff on new accounting requirements
3. Financial Statements & Audit Coordination
- Assist in preparing separate and group financial statements
- Compile IFRS-compliant reports and expenditure statements
- Coordinate external audit processes
- Respond to audit queries and implement audit recommendations
- Serve as technical liaison with external auditors
Remuneration & Start Date
- Remuneration: Commensurate with the seniority of the position
- Assumption of Duty: As soon as possible
