Senior Data Quality Controller

Reference: WS03/072025
Location: SAWS Head Office, Centurion
Salary: Negotiable

Requirements:

  • Weather Observers Certificate or equivalent qualification in meteorology/climatology or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a meteorological or similar scientific environment.

Duties:

  • Quality control of climate data from SAWS surface observation network.
  • Archive sunshine data and charts.
  • Capture data and metadata from various sources, scan historical documents.
  • Provide data insights to scientists and forecasters.
  • Apply WMO and ISO standards.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent Excel proficiency; knowledge of Crystal Reports, SQL, or GIS is an advantage.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Senior Meteorological Technician

Reference: WS02/072025
Location: Nelspruit Weather Office
Salary Range: R295,600 – R356,200 (Paterson Grade: C1)

Requirements:

  • Weather Observers Certificate (WMO BIP-MT compliant).
  • Senior Certificate with Maths and Physical Science.
  • ICAO AMO competency certificate.
  • At least 3 years’ meteorological experience.
  • Code 8 driver’s license.

Duties:

  • Perform visual weather observations and equipment maintenance.
  • Collect and quality-control meteorological/climate data.
  • Participate in audits, risk mitigation, SHEQ compliance.
  • Mentor new staff and support training programmes.
  • Collaborate with other regional offices and promote public awareness.

Skills:

  • Leadership, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
  • Resilience and emotional intelligence.
