Junior Data Analyst (Job Grade C3–C5)

Purpose of the Role

The Junior Data Analyst will support the PIC Data and Analytics function by performing end-to-end data analysis activities, including requirements gathering, data modelling, mining, visualisation, and reporting. The role supports business objectives by delivering accurate insights, identifying trends, improving business processes, and enabling advanced analytics initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst and/or Azure Database Administration Certification
  • Data Analytics or related certifications (added advantage)
  • 1–3 years’ experience in a data analytics or reporting role
  • Exposure to asset management, financial analytics or investment data
  • Experience using analytics and visualisation tools such as IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience with databases and data warehouse design or implementation
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Power BI and Excel

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Extract, analyse and transform complex datasets to answer business questions
  • Map and trace data across systems to resolve business or system challenges
  • Develop dashboards and reports using Power BI and related tools
  • Automate and improve reporting processes
  • Perform data validation, profiling and quality checks
  • Support data governance, metadata management and standard definitions
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across investment, operations and IT teams
  • Participate in project activities including requirements gathering, testing and documentation
  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines and datasets
  • Support analytics services within Microsoft Fabric and Azure environments
  • Identify and resolve issues in data extracts, pipelines and queries
  • Provide data analysis support throughout the project lifecycle
  • Participate in data auditing and anomaly detection in line with policies
  • Apply quality assurance best practices for analytics services
  • Support management of data feed services and subscriptions (e.g. JSE, Bloomberg, MSCI, LSEG)

  • Strong understanding of data analytics processes and methodologies
  • Knowledge of databases, data warehouses/lakes and cloud architectures
  • Numerical, analytical and statistical skills
  • Understanding of agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of data governance and business workflows
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of data privacy laws and practices
  • High attention to detail and analytical capability
  • Relationship management and customer-centric approach
