The Phumelela Local Municipality has announced a permanent vacancy for an Internal Auditor in the Office of the Municipal Manager. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply before the closing date.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following essential requirements:
- BCom Degree in Internal Auditing, Auditing, Accounting and Risk Management or Bachelor of Accounting Science in Internal Auditing
- Internal Audit Technician (IAT) or Professional Internal Auditor (PIA) designation will be an added advantage
- Registration with a professional body such as IIASA or IRMSA will be an added advantage
- Municipal Finance Management Programme (MFMP) certificate will be an added advantage
- Valid driver’s licence
- Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Advanced Excel
- Strong knowledge of Internal Control, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, MFMA and Treasury Regulations
- Sound understanding of COSO Internal Control Model
- At least 3 years’ experience in auditing within a local government environment
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Identify strategic, operational and compliance risks within the Municipality
- Conduct follow-up audits on Internal Audit and Auditor-General findings
- Review financial statements for compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA)
- Execute full audit processes from planning to reporting with minimal supervision
- Perform audit fieldwork and prepare audit working papers
- Draft audit reports outlining findings, root causes and recommendations
- Conduct preliminary investigations and special investigations when required
- Provide advisory support to municipal departments on internal controls
- Prepare investigation reports and submit findings to the Head of Internal Audit
The role requires strong analytical, investigative and reporting skills, as well as the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders at various levels.
