Firefighter (Swellendam & Grabouw)

Salary: Task Grade T-8: R238 056 – R309 012 per annum
(Plus normal fringe benefits of a Local Authority)
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or higher
- Minimum of two (2) years continuous operational experience in fire services within a municipal or designated fire service
- Fire Fighter 1 Certificate
- Hazmat Awareness Certificate
- First Aid Level 3 Certificate
- Valid Code C1 driver’s licence
- Physically and mentally fit
- Medical Test: NFPA 1582
- No criminal record
- Literacy in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
Key Responsibilities
- Perform operational fire and emergency response functions in terms of the Fire Act
- Firefighting and rescue operations
- Emergency medical services
- Handling hazardous materials incidents
- Humanitarian services, including animal rescue and disaster response
- Fire prevention activities and public fire and life safety education
- Taking control of small to medium fire incidents
- Ensuring operational readiness of vehicles and equipment
Competencies

- Functional Competencies: Firefighting, rescue operations, special operations (Hazmat, urban search and rescue), fire safety and prevention, emergency medical care

- Management and Leadership Competencies: Impact and influence, team orientation, direction setting, coaching and mentoring
