1. Chief Dietitian

Minimum requirements

  • A degree/qualification in Dietetics or Nutrition that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dietitian.
  • Current HPCSA registration as Dietitian.
  • Completed Community Service year or at least 1 year formal work experience in Dietetics.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Experience level:
    • Grade 1: Minimum 3 years’ appropriate experience after registration with HPCSA.

What you will do

  • Assess, counsel and treat patients to improve nutritional status.
  • Provide clinical nutrition management across departments.
  • Lead and support hospital nutrition services, including quality assurance and supervision of nutrition staff.
  • Drive nutrition education, promotion and advocacy in line with national nutrition priorities and health calendar days.
  • Meet and collaborate with internal stakeholders (facility nutrition meetings, MCWH&N structures, allied health, perinatal, etc.).
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on Integrated Nutrition Programme (INP):
    • Compile quarterly reports.
    • Present quarterly reviews.
  • Conduct supervisory support visits to ensure quality nutrition services in the hospital and linked facilities.

Minimum requirements

  • Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
  • A post-basic, 1-year SANC-accredited qualification in at least one relevant specialty area, for example:
    • Child Nursing / Paediatrics
    • Advanced Midwifery & Neonatal
    • Intensive Care / ICU
    • Theatre Nursing
    • Medical & Surgical Nursing
    • Psychiatric Nursing
    • Oncology
    • Ophthalmic

  • Experience:
    • Grade 1: Minimum 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.

6. Medical Specialist (Psychiatry)

Salary (sessional):

  • Grade 1: R646 per hour (less than 5 years’ specialist experience)
  • Grade 2: R737 per hour (5–9 years’ specialist experience)
  • Grade 3: R853 per hour (10+ years’ specialist experience)

Minimum requirements

  • MBChB.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
  • Experience/qualification in Forensic Psychiatry is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002
    • Child Justice Act 75 of 2008
    • Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977
  • Ability to work with courts, correctional services and multidisciplinary forensic teams.

  • Conduct 30-day forensic psychiatric observations (Sections 77, 78, 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act).
  • Perform short psychiatric evaluations of accused persons for court.
  • Produce expert psychiatric reports for adults and minors.
  • Participate in clinical case discussions and guide registrars/psychologists.
  • Ensure clinical, legal and ethical compliance in forensic work.
  • Assist with multidisciplinary management of state patients.
