The Housing Development Agency (HDA) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for a temporary Assistant Town Planner role in the Western Cape. This six-month contract position is ideal for candidates with early-career experience in spatial planning and land assessment who are passionate about advancing human settlement development in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities
1. Land and Property Identification
- Implement criteria for identifying land for human settlement
- Compile land records, maps, and reports
- Research and assess land suitability aligned with HDA strategies
- Engage with stakeholders on identified land opportunities
2. Land Suitability Assessment
- Conduct pre-acquisition feasibility assessments:
- Environmental, land use, and geotechnical reviews
- Infrastructure capacity and development potential
- Financial viability including valuations
- Draft layout plans and planning reports
- Conduct field evaluations and support land release initiatives
3. Development Planning
- Support the submission of development applications
- Manage land use processes and policy evaluation
- Evaluate rezoning, statutory applications, and site plans
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Town Planning
- 1–3 years’ experience in the built environment
- GIS and AutoCAD skills advantageous
- Experience in compiling Spatial Plans, Upgrading Master Plans, etc.
- Understanding of deeds information and human settlements policies
