Landscape Ecologist (Level 10) – 5 Year Contract

Post Details

  • Post Title: Landscape Ecologist (Level 10)
  • Contract Type: 5-Year Fixed-Term Contract
  • Centre: Porterville Office (Landscape West)
  • Salary: R750 656 – R867 963 per annum

Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Botany / Biology at NQF Level 9 or higher
  • Minimum 4 years relevant ecological experience within the Western Cape
  • Registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist
  • Proven experience in data analysis, biodiversity monitoring, GIS (QGIS), and report writing
  • Knowledge of fynbos, succulent karoo, freshwater and marine ecosystems
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel and conduct fieldwork
  • Proficiency in at least two official Western Cape languages
  • No criminal record

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide landscape-scale ecological decision support
  • Analyse biodiversity data and produce scientific management reports
  • Guide protected area and landscape planning processes
  • Support biodiversity stewardship, protected area expansion, and compliance
  • Build partnerships and support ecological capacity building
  • Lead ecological risk management and conservation intelligence initiatives

Conservation Assistant (Level 2) – Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve

  • Post Title: Conservation Assistant (Level 2)

  • Centre: Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, Heidelberg
  • Salary: R181 505 – R200 637 per annum

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum 2 years related experience
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence (at least 2 years old)
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Internet)
  • Physically fit and willing to work outdoors
  • No criminal record

Duties

  • Assist with nature conservation, monitoring and surveillance
  • Support eco-tourism operations and visitor services
  • Participate in firefighting, search and rescue, and alien vegetation control
  • Assist with maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, and trails
  • Support law enforcement and compliance monitoring activities

Conservation Assistant (Level 2) – Vrolikheid Nature Reserve

  • Centre: Vrolikheid Nature Reserve, McGregor

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum 2 years related experience

  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays
  • No criminal record

Duties

  • Support daily conservation and eco-tourism operations
  • Assist with habitat restoration, monitoring, and environmental education
  • Maintain reserve infrastructure, equipment, and signage
  • Participate in compliance patrols and law enforcement support
  • Assist with administrative and occupational health and safety duties
