The Mpumalanga Department of Health is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for several posts across the Ehlanzeni District. These positions are aimed at improving service delivery in hospitals and clinics, and preference will be given to candidates whose appointment promotes race, gender and disability representivity in line with the Department’s Employment Equity Plan.

1. Administrative Officer: Patient Administration

Salary: R325 101 per annum (Level 07), plus service benefits

Minimum Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus 3 years’ experience in Patient Administration
    OR
  • Diploma / Degree (NQF 6/7) in:
    • Public Administration
    • Public Management
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Outpatient administration and reception/help desk functions
    • PEIS, Billing system and UPFS user guide/procedures
    • Revenue policies
    • Sector financial administration and the PFMA
    • Relevant prescripts (e.g. Government Gazette)
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a 24-hour shift environment
  • Willingness to be part of hospital multidisciplinary committees
  • A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage

Key Duties

  • Manage 24-hour patient administration (admissions, reception and records).
  • Maintain and monitor internal controls for revenue collection.
  • Process debtor accounts and handle banking of collected revenue.
  • Oversee filing systems for medical records, including archiving and re-classification of patients.
  • Compile management reports, statistics and performance information.
  • Manage staff schedules (on/off duties), including ward clerks.
  • Control overtime, stand-by and Sunday/public holiday claims.
  • Supervise queue marshals, porters and mortuary services.
  • Handle all enquiries related to patient administration and assist with case management.

2. Chief Accounting Clerk: Expenditure

Minimum Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus 3 years’ relevant experience
    OR
  • Diploma / Degree (NQF 6/7) in:
    • Finance
    • Accounting Management
    • Financial Management
  • Knowledge and experience in expenditure management, especially:
    • LOGIS
    • Preferential Procurement Policy Framework
    • PFMA and Treasury Regulations
    • Basic Accounting System (BAS)
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Good management and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of financial prescripts
  • A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage

Key Duties

  • Supervise and control subordinates in the expenditure management unit.
  • Authorise payments on BAS and LOGIS.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and Treasury regulations.
  • Implement and enforce internal control measures.
  • Manage and report on open orders (accruals) and reconcile NTSG accounts.
  • Handle HR-related matters (leave, PMDS, quarterly evaluations).
  • Attend to and respond to audit queries.
  • Prepare NTSG reports and manage human resources in the unit.

3. Professional Nurse Grade 1 (PN-A2): General Nursing

    • Accredited with SANC in terms of Govt Notice R425 and/or R171 (depending on level of care)
    • Must allow registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (2025)
  • Ability to function independently and prioritise work
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Key Duties

  • Provide clinical nursing care in line with scope of practice and facility standards.
  • Promote quality nursing care as per professional standards and policies.
  • Participate in implementation of:
    • National Core Standards
    • Ideal Hospital Realisation Framework (where applicable)
  • Communicate effectively with patients, supervisors and other clinicians (including report writing).
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality care.
  • Respect and work well with diverse groups (intellectual, cultural, racial, religious).
  • Plan and organise own work and that of support staff to ensure proper nursing care.
  • Show concern for patients and advocate for proper treatment in line with Batho Pele principles.
  • Manage and utilise resources effectively within the unit.

4. Professional Nurse Grade 1 (PN-A2): With Midwifery

Minimum Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12
  • Basic qualification accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice R425:
    • Diploma/Degree in General Nursing
    • Qualification must allow registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (2025)
  • (Midwifery is part of the basic training or post-basic, aligned to facility needs)
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Key Duties

  • Render clinical nursing and midwifery services according to scope of practice and facility standards.
  • Promote quality maternal and general nursing care.
  • Support implementation of National Core Standards and Ideal Hospital frameworks.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, including clear documentation and reports.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
  • Plan and organise own work and that of support staff.
  • Uphold Batho Pele principles and advocate for respectful, safe patient care.
