iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for various Environmental Monitor and Supervisor: Environmental Monitor positions based in Durban, East London, and iSimangaliso Wetland Park. These roles offer fixed-term contracts ending March 2026 with daily remuneration and the opportunity to contribute to national environmental management efforts.

Post Title: Environmental Monitors (Durban & East London)

Contract: Fixed Term (until March 2026)
Remuneration: R208,00 per day

Requirements:

  • Grade 12; post-matric qualification is an advantage
  • Code 08 driver’s license
  • Knowledge/experience in oceans and coastal environments
  • Environmental Management Inspector certificate is an advantage
  • Good communication and computer skills
  • Physically fit and willing to travel, work long hours under pressure

Duties:

  • Conduct coastal inspections for permit compliance
  • Identify and report illegal structures and discharges
  • Participate in coastal patrols and enforcement operations
  • Support Operation Phakisa’s compliance joint operations
  • Data collection and reporting for planning purposes

Post Title: Supervisor: Environmental Monitor (Durban & East London)

Contract: Fixed Term (until March 2026)
Remuneration: R311,00 per day

Requirements:

  • Qualification in Nature Conservation / Environmental Management
  • Environmental Management Inspector certificate is an advantage
  • Experience in coastal compliance and enforcement
  • Supervisory experience and strong people management skills
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license
  • Excellent communication, computer literacy, ability to work under pressure

Duties:

  • Oversee coastal monitoring activities and compliance operations
  • Supervise identification and reporting of environmental violations
  • Plan and execute joint enforcement operations
  • Compile detailed reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly)

Post Title: Environmental Monitors (iSimangaliso Wetland Park)

Contract: Fixed Term
Remuneration: R208,00 per day

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 plus post-matric qualification
  • Law enforcement/field ranger training is an advantage
  • Driver’s license and criminal record clearance required
  • Understanding of environmental legislation
  • Physically fit, computer literate, and strong communication skills

Duties:

  • Conduct law enforcement (day/night patrols) and fence monitoring
  • Maintain park and camp facilities
  • Handle visitor management and environmental education
  • Data collection, capturing, and reporting
