Public Protector South Africa has re-advertised two Investigator positions based at its North West Provincial Office in Mafikeng, calling on experienced investigation professionals to apply before the closing date of 18 February 2026 at 16:30.
The posts, advertised under Reference: PPSA 03/06/2025, form part of the institution’s mandate to strengthen accountability and good governance by investigating complaints of maladministration, abuse of power, improper conduct, and undue delays within state organs and public entities.
Role overview
Successful candidates will report to a Senior Investigator within the Investigations Unit and will assist with conducting investigations into complaints lodged with the Public Protector. The work includes applying investigation and forensic techniques, using alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and producing high-quality investigation and closing reports in line with PPSA service standards.
Remuneration
- R468 459 per annum plus benefits for not legally qualified candidates
- R506 238 per annum plus benefits for legally qualified candidates
Minimum requirements
Applicants must hold a degree or National Diploma in Law, Auditing, Forensic Accounting, or Forensic Investigations, with at least three years’ experience in investigations, forensic investigations, or forensic auditing. A sound understanding of the legislative mandate of Public Protector South Africa, knowledge of case management systems, investigation techniques, and a valid driver’s licence are essential. Fluency in English and at least one other official language relevant to the province is required.
Key responsibilities
Duties include conducting investigations in accordance with PPSA standards, preparing investigation plans, applying Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes, keeping complainants informed, drafting correspondence and reports, and submitting accurate monthly and quarterly statistical reports through the case management system.
Appointment conditions
Appointments will be made in terms of the Public Protector Act, with a 12-month probation period (extendable to 18 months). Successful candidates must sign a secrecy declaration and performance agreement, and will be subject to security clearance and vetting.
