Pikitup Johannesburg is hiring 400 General Worker Across Various Depots

Pikitup Johannesburg SOC Ltd has re-advertised 400 General Worker vacancies under Vacancy Reference No: 001/2026, offering employment opportunities within its Operations Department. The closing date for applications is 16 February 2026.

The positions are based at various depots and fall under Task Level 1/A1, with a basic salary of R10 616.38 per month (excluding benefits). Successful candidates will report to a Team Leader and will be responsible for performing street cleaning and refuse-related services across the City of Johannesburg.

Purpose of the position

The General Workers will carry out cleaning and refuse bin delivery tasks, which may include:

  • Street cleaning and sweeping
  • Lane flushing
  • Stacking of refuse bags
  • Carcass removal
  • Bin deliveries and replacements

The role forms part of Pikitup’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and service delivery standards within Johannesburg communities.

Key responsibilities

Duties include litter picking, sweeping designated areas, collecting and stacking refuse bags, distributing refuse bags to residents, handling bin deliveries and replacements, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures. Workers must wear protective clothing at all times, report safety incidents, and ensure daily tasks are completed efficiently.

The position also requires engagement with members of the public to resolve complaints and ensure prompt reporting of service delivery breakdowns to supervisors.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 10 qualification
  • At least 12 months cleaning or general work experience
  • No criminal record
  • Must be physically and mentally fit
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must reside within the City of Johannesburg (proof of residence required)

Competencies required

Candidates should have knowledge of relevant tools and procedures, understand company and legislative requirements, and demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team environment.
