Oudtshoorn Municipality has announced a vacancy for one (1) Control Room Operator, inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply before the closing date of 13 February 2026. The position offers a monthly salary of R6 065.10 and forms part of the Municipality’s efforts to strengthen emergency response and after-hours service delivery within the area.
Role overview
The appointed Control Room Operator will be responsible for managing emergency and after-hours complaints, coordinating dispatch callouts, and ensuring accurate logging and communication through the Municipality’s live computer call-taking system. The role requires professionalism, quick decision-making, and effective communication across multiple platforms to support service delivery to the public.
Minimum requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (proof to be attached)
- 0–2 years’ experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Physically and mentally fit
- No criminal record
- Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
Key performance areas
Duties include daily shift handovers, managing emergencies and after-hours complaints, handling dispatch callouts, monitoring and reporting unusual activity, maintaining accurate records, and responding promptly to checks. The successful candidate must also be willing to work overtime on short notice and participate in internal and external training programmes.
Competencies
The role calls for strong written and oral communication, attention to detail, ethics and professionalism, problem-solving, planning and organising skills, and a solid service delivery orientation. Functional competencies include the use of technology, data processing and analysis, while personal attributes such as resilience, adaptability, and learning orientation are essential.
Selection process

Background checks will be conducted, including verification of qualifications, criminal records, and reference checks with previous employers. Appointment will be subject to the signing of an employment contract, performance agreement, and disclosure of interest.
