Programme Overview

The NHLS Registrar Programme provides structured specialist training in:

  • Anatomical Pathology
  • Chemical Pathology
  • Medical Microbiology
  • Haematology
  • Medical Virology

During the programme, registrars will participate in academic teaching, clinical laboratory service delivery, and undergraduate training. The programme runs for 4–5 years, depending on the discipline.

Successful candidates will be remunerated in line with the DPSA salary scale for registrars and the NHLS employment conditions.


Minimum Requirements

  • MBChB/MBBCh degree (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice)

  2. Motivation letter
  3. Comprehensive CV
  4. Certified copy of ID
  5. Copies of qualifications
  6. Academic transcripts
  7. Current HPCSA certificate
  8. Two confidential professional references (sent directly by referees to NHLS before closing date)

Candidates must indicate:

  • Up to two (2) preferred universities, and
  • Up to two (2) preferred disciplines
