Artisan Electrician (Permanent)

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent N4 Certificate
  • Valid Electrician Trade Certificate
  • High Voltage Regulations (ORHVS Regs)
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Code C1 Driver’s Licence
  • Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience
  • Physically healthy and fit; able to work at heights
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other official language of the Western Cape
  • Exposure to SSEG, inverters, UPS and solar plant environments (added advantage)

Key Performance Areas

  • Perform high voltage switching as per ORHVS regulations
  • Troubleshoot, fault-find and repair medium and low voltage electrical systems
  • Maintain, construct, install and commission municipal electrical networks, including:
    • 11kV and 22kV overhead lines and underground cables
    • Switchgear, Mini-Substations, RMUs and Transformers
    • 400V/230V distribution kiosks and heat-shrink cable joints
  • Maintain streetlights, high mast lights and traffic lights
  • Install new domestic service connections and prepaid meter installations/conversions
  • Inspect electrical installations and report findings
  • Ensure on-site Occupational Health and Safety and supervise staff
  • Attend to customer electrical faults and complaints
  • Perform overtime and standby duties on a roster basis
  • Operate heavy and specialised vehicles and equipment (e.g. crane trucks)
  • Promote safety, health practices and good housekeeping at all times
