Department of Traditional Affairs Vacancies 2026: Researcher and Admin Assistant Posts Open in Pretoria

The Department of Traditional Affairs has announced new vacancies under Annexure R, with applications closing on 27 February 2026. Researcher (Ref No: 2026/03)

Contract linked to the term of office of the Commission on Khoi-San Matters ending 31 August 2026
Salary: R468 459 per annum (Level 09) plus 37% in lieu of service benefits
Centre: Pretoria

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Social Sciences, Anthropology, History, Political Studies, Public or Development Studies, Public Policy or related qualification
  • Minimum three years’ experience in social sciences, anthropological and/or historical research and genealogical services
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Fluency in English

  • Data management and report writing
  • Knowledge of Khoi-San history
  • Strong communication skills

Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct anthropological and historical research on applications for recognition of Khoi-San communities and leaders
  • Document customary laws of succession, customs and genealogies
  • Support the Commission on Khoi-San Matters
  • Travel extensively where required

Salary: R228 321 per annum (Level 05)
Centre: Pretoria

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Certificate in Office Management or Secretarial Studies
  • Post-Matric qualification will be an added advantage

Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage filing systems and document tracking
  • Provide secretarial support to committees
  • Compile agendas, minutes and reports
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops and public hearings
  • Arrange travel and logistical support
  • Manage office communication systems and inventory
