Post 1: Field Ranger (Level 4) – Limietberg Nature Reserve
Salary: R237 046 – R272 581 per annum
Centre: Paarl, Western Cape
Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- At least 2 years’ experience, preferably in estuary, coastal or marine environment.
- Valid driver’s licence (3+ years driving experience).
- Knowledge of ecological monitoring, law enforcement, firefighting, and incident response.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS).
- Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- No criminal record.
Added Advantages:
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation/Marine Science.
- Peace Officer’s Certificate, EMI Grade 5, firefighting certification, 4×4 driving experience, ICS 100 certification.
- GIS software knowledge, swimming ability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement ecosystem conservation and restoration projects.
- Manage alien invasive species, heritage tasks, and ecological monitoring.
- Support eco-tourism, visitor liaison, and environmental awareness.
- Carry out law enforcement, compliance monitoring, and incident response (fires, disasters, wildlife strandings).
- Maintain infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment.
- Supervise contract staff, students, and volunteers.
Post 2: Conservation Assistant (Level 2) – Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve
Salary: R181 505 – R200 637 per annum
Centre: Grabouw, Western Cape
Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- At least 2 years’ related experience.
- Valid Code B driver’s licence (2+ years).
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Internet).
- No criminal record.
Added Advantages:
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience in tool and infrastructure repair/maintenance.
- Stores management experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with ecological monitoring, alien plant control, and restoration projects.
- Perform firefighting, hazard identification, and incident response.
- Support eco-tourism operations including visitor engagement, guest check-in/out, and environmental education.
- Maintain infrastructure, equipment, signage, and terrain.
- Assist with administrative tasks, supervision of contract staff, and reporting.
Post 3: Field Ranger (Level 4) – Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve
Salary: R237 046 – R272 581 per annum
Centre: Grabouw, Western Cape
Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- At least 2 years’ experience in protected area management.
- Valid driver’s licence (3+ years).
- Knowledge of ecological monitoring, law enforcement, firefighting, and incident response.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, GIS).
- Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- No criminal record.
