Embassy Liaison Officer

Purpose of the Role

The Embassy Liaison Officer is responsible for providing strategic support services to South African Missions abroad to assist in executing South African Tourism’s core mandate of marketing South Africa as a premier Leisure and Business Events destination.

Key Performance Areas

Managing Relationships with South African Missions

  • Develop and strengthen bilateral relationships through the execution of tourism-related projects at South African Embassies
  • Provide market-related tourism advice to Heads of Mission
  • Support missions in executing global trade and promotions strategies in collaboration with the Brand team
  • Assist missions with hosting opportunities for trade and media
  • Identify and communicate international marketing opportunities
  • Participate in mission engagements and platforms where possible

Marketing Support and Training Coordination

  • Manage projects supporting marketing platform engagements with trade associations and key stakeholders
  • Provide marketing collateral, sales and trade toolkits, and reporting mechanisms
  • Support trade familiarisation initiatives such as SA Specialist training, destination presentations, Indaba, Meetings Africa, and familiarisation trips
  • Develop and manage training programmes suitable for all DIRCO levels

Building and Maintaining Relationships

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Heads of Mission and Tourism Attachés
  • Establish partnerships with key stakeholders to promote the South African tourism brand
  • Identify leveraging opportunities and support missions in securing maximum exposure for tours
  • Develop and implement annual plans aligned with South African Tourism objectives

Information and Knowledge Sharing

  • Compile and distribute quarterly tourism publications for South African Missions
  • Prepare and submit quarterly performance reports

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Government, Stakeholder Management, Project Management, or a similar environment at middle management level
  • Strong knowledge of leadership, financial management, strategic development, project management, report writing, and communication
  • Experience in stakeholder relations, public speaking, and strategic planning
  • Knowledge of Public Service systems
