1) Chief Director: Direct Taxes — Ref S053/2025
Division: Tax and Financial Sector Policy (TFSP)
Purpose: Lead evidence-based reforms across personal & corporate income tax, CGT, withholding taxes, estate duty, donations tax, ensuring equity, revenue adequacy, and competitiveness.
Salary: R1 494 900 p.a. (all-inclusive)
Requirements:
- Grade 12 plus Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Economics/Law/Taxation/Accounting
- 5+ years senior managerial experience in tax policy
- Proven policy formulation, analysis, and legislative oversight experience
- Nyukela (SMS) pre-entry certificate (prior to appointment)
Key Duties: - Advise Minister and Treasury on direct tax design & reforms
- Lead annual Budget Review direct tax proposals (Ch.4 & Annexure C) with SARS
- Evaluate fiscal & distributional impacts; publish discussion papers
