The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) available positions are as follows:

Junior Software Engineer at South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO)

Minimum education requirements:

  • NQF 6 or higher in Computer Science, Engineering (with a software focus) or related field

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Software development of the telescope operational software
  • Participating in system administration of hardware platforms, deployment environments and processes, this may include site visits to the Karoo
  • Participating in commissioning and lab integration of software and hardware
  • Participating in coding standards compliance and code reviews
  • Following system engineering principles for development as instructed
  • Producing documentation sets for the applicable subsystem as required

The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:

  • self-motivate, train and up-skill

Experience

  • test-driven development and integration testing techniques, methodologies and frameworks
  • quality assurance processes and software development processes
  • supporting systems like revision controls and build systems
  • and understanding of implementing system engineering principles

Knowledge

  • and experience in Python programming (or other language such as cjcee/CJcplusplus/Java)
  • and experience in Linux operating system
  • the software development lifecycle stages
