1. Laboratory Assistant

Ref: LAB01/2025

The Laboratory Assistant role is perfect for individuals with a keen interest in microbiology and quality control. The role involves performing various QC tests related to vaccines and assisting in the maintenance of all microbiological QC laboratories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform sterility tests on inactivated and live viral, bacterial vaccines, blood vaccines, diluents, and mediums.
  • Conduct bio-burden tests using filtration, settle plates, and air-sampling equipment.
  • Maintain lab protective gear, dispose of waste materials, and ensure the cleanliness of laboratories.
  • Monitor and maintain temperature-sensitive equipment such as incubators, freezers, and autoclaves.
  • Liaise with procurement for laboratory consumables and manage test result documentation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Biological Sciences (NQF 6) or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a microbiological laboratory, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

Remuneration:
The role offers a Paterson Grade C remuneration package, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

2. Production Technician

Ref: TECH09/2025

The Production Technician position is ideal for candidates interested in supporting manufacturing processes in the production of viral vaccines on cell and egg cultures. This role ensures the smooth and efficient production of vaccines according to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the production of viral antigens and vaccines on mammalian and egg cultures.
  • Perform bio-decontamination of production areas and equipment.
  • Conduct in-process monitoring of cells, viral cultures, and equipment.
  • Maintain production records, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with safety and quality systems.
  • Contribute to process troubleshooting and risk mitigation in the production process.

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Life Sciences (NQF 6).
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a laboratory environment, with exposure to aseptic processes.

Remuneration:
The position offers a Paterson Grade C remuneration package, which will be determined by experience and qualifications.

3. Production Technologist

Ref: PROD08/2025

The Production Technologist is responsible for producing cell cultures and viral vaccines in compliance with regulatory standards such as ISO 9001 and GMP. This role plays a key part in ensuring that OBP meets market demands while adhering to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture viral vaccines using mammalian cell lines and embryonated eggs.
  • Perform room and equipment cleaning, calibrate equipment, and monitor production processes.
  • Manage documentation related to production activities, including batch documents and ERP stock records.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and process optimization efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9001, GMP, and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc Degree / BTech in Microbiology, Biological Science, Virology, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology (NQF 7).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or bioprocessing environment.
  • Experience in large-scale propagation of viruses and aseptic production techniques is highly desirable.

Remuneration:
The role offers a Paterson Grade C remuneration package, based on qualifications and experience.
