The Role: Aircon and Facilities Maintenance Technician

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the continued effective functioning of all air conditioning systems and related facilities equipment at NMISA. This is crucial for maintaining optimal environmental conditions across the institute’s laboratories and operational areas.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Aircon and Facilities Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • General Maintenance: Ensuring that all air conditioning and related facilities equipment is functioning optimally, including routine inspections and repairs.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Performing tasks outlined in maintenance registers to keep equipment in top condition.
  • Fault Finding and Repairs: Diagnosing issues and repairing air conditioning and other facilities-related equipment.
  • Contractor Management: Managing external contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications, and overseeing the quality of completed work.
  • Emergency Callouts: Being on standby to attend to urgent maintenance needs as directed by the NMISA Call Centre.
  • Staying Updated: Keeping abreast of new trends and technologies in air conditioning and facilities management.

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Technical Certification: At least an N4 or higher Technical Certificate, with 5 years post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Trade Certification: Aircon, Electrical, Mechanical, or Millwright.
  • Experience: Skilled in fault-finding, operation, and repair of related installations.
  • Knowledge: Basic refrigeration principles and understanding of various installations.
  • Skills: Ability to perform preventative maintenance, manage contractors, and provide expert advice on technical specifications.
  • Other Requirements: A valid driver’s license, basic computer skills, and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993).

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is between R406,553.90 and R478,299.67 per annum (all-inclusive), depending on qualifications and experience.
