The museum group is looking for dedicated and skilled individuals to fill various positions across different departments. Here are the vacancies currently open:


1. Senior Educator (Art) – Indefinite Appointment

Basic Salary: R 456,325.38 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a diploma in education or a Teachers Diploma with a specialization in Art Education.
  • At least five years’ experience in education or public programmes.
  • Knowledge of Museum education and public programmes.
  • Familiarity with CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license.

As a Senior Educator (Art), you will be responsible for developing and implementing educational programs in art, engaging museum visitors, and enhancing the public’s understanding of South African art history.


2. Outreach Officer – Indefinite Appointment

Basic Salary: R 210,858.01 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with a Diploma in Education (Science Focus).
  • Teaching or tutoring experience with a science background.
  • Strong communication skills in at least two regional languages.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with the National Curriculum.
  • Valid driver’s license.

This role involves engaging with local communities, developing science-based programs, and facilitating outreach initiatives to bring the museum experience to broader audiences.


3. Curator: Terrestrial Vertebrates

Basic Salary: R 525,058.16 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Biodiversity or a related field.
  • Proven curatorial experience with a focus on terrestrial vertebrates.
  • Research expertise in taxonomy and biodiversity.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Valid driver’s license.

As a Curator for Terrestrial Vertebrates, you will oversee the collection, curation, and exhibition of terrestrial vertebrate specimens, contributing to the museum’s scientific research and public education.


4. Curator: Art (New Media & Photography)

Basic Salary: R 525,058.16 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Art History, Art Theory, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an Art Museum or Gallery.
  • Proven record of research and exhibition curation in new media and photography.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and design software.

This role involves curating exhibitions focused on contemporary art forms, particularly new media and photography, and contributing to Iziko’s renowned collection of art exhibitions.


5. Curator: Contemporary Art

Basic Salary: R 525,058.16 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Art History, Art Theory, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in South African contemporary art curation.
  • Research, publication, and exhibition experience.
  • Computer literacy.

The Curator of Contemporary Art will be responsible for overseeing the contemporary art collections, curating exhibitions, and conducting research to advance the understanding of modern South African art.


6. Curator: Art for Global Africa

Basic Salary: R 525,058.16 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Art History, Art Theory, or equivalent with a focus on African art.
  • Proven curatorial and academic research experience in African and diaspora art.
  • Engagement with museum practices in global contexts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and valid driver’s license.

This role focuses on the curation of art that reflects Africa’s rich cultural heritage and its diaspora, contributing to the museum’s international art narrative.


7. Exhibition Designer (3D) – Indefinite Appointment

Basic Salary: R 409,919.02 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Valid driver’s license.

As an Exhibition Designer, you will design and develop creative and interactive museum exhibitions, bringing art and history to life through innovative design.


8. Communications Coordinator – Definite Appointment

Basic Salary: R 456,325.38 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Communication, with an ideal Honours degree.
  • At least five years’ experience in a Marketing & Communications environment.
  • Media strategy and event management experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and database knowledge.

This role involves managing media relations, crafting communications strategies, and overseeing event management to enhance the museum’s public image.


9. Cashbook Administrator – Definite Appointment (6 Months)

Basic Salary: R 253,235.90 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and basic Accounting certificate.
  • Experience in accounting and cashbook management.
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 and MS Office Suite.

As a Cashbook Administrator, you will manage and reconcile financial transactions and assist with general accounting duties.


10. Finance Administrator – Definite Appointment (6 Months)

Basic Salary: R 253,235.90 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and bookkeeping certificate.
  • Experience in financial administration.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., ACCPAC) and MS Office Suite.

This role provides administrative support to the finance department, assisting with reporting, budgeting, and financial management.


11. IT & Telecom Help Desk Administrator / Desktop Technician

Basic Salary: R 358,475.76 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Iziko Museums, Cape Town

Key Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and MCP certification.
  • Experience with IT technical support and systems administration.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Apple Macintosh support.
  • Relevant IT qualifications.

As part of the IT team, you will provide technical support for museum staff, ensuring that IT systems run smoothly.
