About the Position
The role of the Psychologist (P7) is crucial in ensuring the mental and emotional wellbeing of both students and staff at CUT. This position is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, and providing professional wellness interventions and programs, ensuring that all services comply with university regulations and national legislation. As a member of the Wellness Centre team, the successful candidate will also provide professional therapeutic services, including effective referrals to outside Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
Main Responsibilities
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure wellness interventions align with legislative requirements and university standards.
- Build strategic partnerships and work agreements with internal and external service providers.
- Organize and facilitate wellness workshops and projects to promote mental and emotional health.
- Compile and submit detailed reports on wellness services and projects.
- Provide individual counselling services to students and staff.
- Manage, monitor, and enhance general wellness services across the university.
- Lead and support staff development within the wellness sub-unit.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Psychology with HPCSA registration as a Counselling Psychologist.
- Three years’ experience providing student services within a higher education or similar environment.
- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist.
- Knowledge of relevant medical legislation and ethical codes.
- Understanding of the higher education landscape and South African Higher Education policy frameworks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word (Intermediate level).
- Project management and report writing skills.
- Strong research capabilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- PhD in Counselling Psychology with HPCSA registration.
- Experience in the provision of student services in a higher education setting.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidates will receive a total cost to company salary of R 956,841 per annum (2025 salary scales to be confirmed). The University applies an internal parity model to ensure fair remuneration based on qualifications and relevant experience. Nature of Appointment
This is a permanent support services position, based at the Bloemfontein Campus.
